Fostering 101
Fostering is rewarding and fun! Families with children enjoy it because you get to temporarily have an animal and teach your children responsibility, love and respect towards animals. Families that don't have children are also wonderful for our pets that come in that cannot live in a household with smaller children. We have events at least once a month, so they can get some exposure and find a family soon.
Requirements: All pets in the household must be up to date on rabies vaccines/preventatives and spayed/neutered. We recommend them also having distemper vaccines, but if they do not we will ask you to keep the pets separated until the foster pet is fully updated on their vaccines. Unfortunately most of the animals we intake are not vaccinated or fixed initially. Fencing is not required. In some cases, we may require if the pet has a tendency of running away, or we may ask for them to be double leashed whenever they are outside. They cannot be left unattended outdoors or tethered alone. We ask for all foster parents to attend at least 1 event per month with your foster pet. Fosters parents help transport the pet to and from the vet- we will work with your schedule, choose a vet near you and if you cannot make it, please allow one of our volunteers to assist with transport.
